Where the word kayak comes from
Did you know that the kayak means “man’s boat”. It is thought to be Inuit in origin and around 4,000 years old. In that society you could not use one until you came of age, when your family built you your own kayak.
Originally it was made from a wooden frame covered in skins. The anorak came out of kayaking too: it was worn for protection, leaving only the face exposed. And in case you were wondering, kayak is a palindrome.
