We would rather be recommending things to do outdoors, as a couple, as a family or with friends, but the situation is not making that easy. Even so, the GoRandom team has not given up on making your life more entertaining, so here are some things to do at home during the fifteen days of coronavirus isolation. Not sure what to do to stop yourself getting bored? Or, worse still, not sure what to do to stop the children getting bored? This one is for you.
Things to do at home
- Online concerts: one of our favourite things on Instagram — and proof that social media can amplify good ideas too — is the #YoMeQuedoEnCasa Festival, an online event with dozens of singers and bands playing half-hour sets from their own profiles. It ran over several weekends and, although it is on a break, they promise to be back. The line-up is revealed bit by bit, keeping the surprise until the end — which is rather how we like things.
- Exercise at home: one of the most repeated pieces of advice during isolation is not to stop dead: keep to your routines as far as you can and keep exercising, even if it is in the living room. A good many athletes, among them on the cyclist Alberto Contador , have started running live sessions from their own social profiles, in much the same way as the concerts. And there are plenty of apps to keep your muscles from seizing up — Freeletics among them.
- Yoga online: they say ‘mens sana in corpore sano’, so set aside a while each day for yoga, which works on the body and the mind at once. With Daily Yoga (a paid app) you get daily sessions from yoga teachers all over the world.
- Entertainment apps: being bored is not an option, so here are some puzzles. There are more and more escape rooms virtual that you can play with friends at a distance. And you can always go back to the classics — those games of Trivial Pursuit in which you find out exactly how much your friends do not know.
- Free games: it might look as though lockdown leaves nothing but the internet, but no. Do you know your neighbours? Now is the moment. Run a game of bingo across the courtyard and spend a while away from a screen. The children will love it.
- Challenges to take on at home: Learn a language online, sign up for a photography course for when this is over, enter a short-story competition… Put your imagination to work and you will find things you did not know you could do.
- A DJ set for the whole street: always dreamed of playing Tomorrowland? This may not be your year either, but who needs Belgium when you can lift the neighbours with this spring’s best records from the balcony? Plenty of people are already doing it.
- Learn to cook: there are only two camps here — those who come out of quarantine as decent cooks and those who eat what they make. If you want to be in the first, follow the live sessions the good chefs are running. Ours is @chefbosquet, whose recipes are as healthy as they are good.
