Anger rooms: what a rage room actually is

Contents

This time we are going to talk about the anger room, which has arrived in Europe from the United States , where they are enormously popular and where some people treat them as a sport. If you have not come across an anger room — or a rage room — it is a room in which you let your anger out in order to be rid of it.

Why go to an anger room

Often, when the pace of life leaves us stressed , or a more or less trivial problem refuses to go away, we end up overwhelmed, on edge and powerless, and the stress goes up further. Some people can manage that stress and let it go one way or another, but for others it finds no way out and turns into anger.

That sort of situation creates tension with other people, and we end up taking it out on somebody who is not to blame and who should not have to put up with it.

For those people, this is a genuinely useful way of letting it out. Anger rooms let you get all of that out , as a group or as a couple. How? We will explain — and the process is simple, with no great preparation needed.

How an anger room works

You get a large roomfilled with objects and small structures that can be destroyed. But of course, what is in an anger room? You are given tools to destroy what is in there, and what is in there can be almost anything:

  • Computers
  • Televisions
  • Telephones
  • Mirrors
  • Crockery
  • Tables
  • Chairs
  • Sofas
  • Shelves
  • Other small furniture

What tools does a rage room give you?

Once you have the objects, you are handed the tools to break them with.

  • Baseball bats
  • Hammers
  • Sledgehammers
  • A metal bar
  • Weight plates
  • Chainsaws

And with that you can let it all out, destroying whatever is in front of you. How you do it, and how much of it, is up to you.

All of it happens in a controlled environment with the necessary safety measures , so that nobody gets hurt. There is a suit to protect you from knocks and cuts, plus a helmet and gloves. The point is to let the anger out without hurting anybody, yourself included

What a rage room is good for

Having explained what it is, here is why it is worth doing — the benefits of a rage room. As we said, it lets you release the anxiety, the stress or the anger in a controlled way and without anybody else bearing it. Often, accumulated stress ends in aggression which, unchecked, brings problems of its own: hurting someone, or breaking something you did not want to break.

So these rooms can be a good outlet. You go to an anger room, you let the stress out and you get a session of laughing and adrenaline. Your mood improves because the anger is no longer there, and that calm can help you get out of certain situations — or simply leave you calmer.

It has to be said that this is not the answer to every problem or every stressful situation; used occasionally, it is healthy. The way to solve a problem is at its root, so this is not a solution to what is worrying you, and it is worth seeing a specialist in anger.

Rage rooms in Spain

This is the activity currently taking off in Spain, and with good reason for hen do. If you go, go responsibly and keep in mind what it is for: relieving stress at a given moment, not resolving anything else.

There are anger rooms in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Málaga, Bilbao and other Spanish cities.
