Rafting

One of the 17 activities you could get with Go Orange, from €35 per person. Like all of them, you do not find out this is the one until between 48 and 24 hours beforehand.

About rafting

What is rafting?

Rafting is one of the more surprising things you can do on water. You follow the river the way it runs, which is to say you let it carry you downstream at speed. Nothing to be afraid of — paddle with the current and enjoy it.

You can do it alone, in a pair or in a group. No previous experience is needed, but the weather at the start time is taken into account to keep everyone safe and make sure the descent goes well.

A bit more about rafting

Did you know that the rafting has seven grades depending on how hard the water is?

Flat water: the grade given when the water has no turbulence at all.

Grade I: Very easy: some turbulence, but nothing that gives you trouble
Grade II: Easy: turbulence with the odd hole and small eddy, none of it dangerous.
Grade III: intermediate. From here on it counts as white water. The water is turbulent, with waves up to a metre. Running water like this asks for some knowledge of what you are on.
Grade IV: hard. The water has a great deal of turbulence, though it can be read and predicted. Waves can reach two metres and there may be drops along the way. It asks for a very good knowledge of the river and solid technique.
Grade V: reserved for experts. Heavily turbulent water that cannot be read with any confidence. Waves over two metres, dangerous drops, large eddies. Technique and river knowledge both have to be at their highest.
Grade VI: impossible to run. Considered unnavigable.

Finally, there is the official website of the Royal Spanish Canoeing Federation (RFEP), which has information on rafting, competition calendars, insurance and licences. The news there is worth reading for professionals and beginners alike.
