What to do in each one and, above all, how to get around without relying on taxis. We only write about cities whose transport we already know inside out — usually the ones we have published a full guide for.
How we pick a city
Always the same order. It is not a sophisticated method, but it works: first the map — how the city is laid out, what is genuinely far and what only looks far on the plan. Then the transport: which lines exist, what a ticket costs, whether a multi-day pass is worth it, and how to get from the airport to the centre without overpaying.
Only after that do we look at what to do. The first three things Google suggests in any city are the ones everybody does; we are after the fourth, the fifth, and the one only someone who lives there mentions.
Prices, opening hours and frequencies come from the operator, with the date we checked them. If a figure cannot be verified, we do not publish it.
